Friday Feast #49, late, late, late

Friday Feast

Appetizer
What job would you definitely not want to have?
Any counter customer service job. I'd hate constantly standing in one place and the hassles that come from the customer. I'm a 'back room' kind of worker, even if it was manual labor. Don't put me on the front lines. I couldn't handle it.

Soup
Oprah calls and wants you to appear on her show. What would that day's show be about?
People who live with chronic minor ailments and how they divert themselves answering blog memes.

Salad
Name 3 vegetables that you eat on a regular basis.
Almost all vegetables are my friends, but lately I've been eating bagged salads. I also stock red cabbage, califlower, and radishes for snacks because I'm trying to lose weight. For cooked vegetables I love green beans, broccoli and sweet potatoes.

Main Course
If you were commissioned to rename your hometown, what would you call it?
I consider Seneca Falls, NY, my childhood home, to be my hometown. I wouldn't change it for the world.

Dessert
If you had a personal assistant, what kind of tasks would you have them to do?
He would be a hybrid of a maid and a handyman. On a routine basis I would have him clean the birdseed hulls that mound up under my birdfeeder, keep my kitchen and bath clean (floors, fixtures) and haul stuff in and out of my 2nd floor apartment, to and from my basement storage, to and from my car. He would clean my car and in winter he would do all the shoveling and scraping. Seasonally, he would install and take out my A/Cs and take my donations of clothing and items to Goodwill. For extra credit, he'd wire more outlets into my apartment. You can see that I've given a lot of thought to this!

Name That Tune

Music can make commercials memorable, but unless I see Bono in sillouette singing and dancing to Vertigo with an iPod bouncing around the screen, it's likely I won't have a clue about the artist or song. [Yes, I'm as old as dirt.]

My friend Songbird, an eldster with an inner age of 16, dug up (continuing with the 'dirt' motif) this handy web resource:

What's That Called?

An Idol Plaything

More pre-holiday fun. Use this American Idol Critique Generator for some laughs.

It also demonstrates that Simon, Randy and Paula really could be more colorful in their critiques.

Playtime, Kids

The word on the street this week is "boredom". The Northeast is rainy, chilly and gloomy. Heck, even Honey is resorting to playing with 'phantom mice' she's so bored. No one wants to be at work where the workload is light in anticipation of the 3-day holiday weekend coming up.

Therefore, I give you Boohbah for your amusement. At the site, move your mouse around and click on stuff. Have fun.

Brrrrr

Heat is off in the apartment because this time of year it should be warm. All the clothes in my closet are now short sleeved. I'm sitting here too chilled to do anything, so I'm climbing into bed and pile on the blankets.

Of course we'll probably flip from this to a 90s heatwave.

(((shiver)))

Honey, My Little Dumpling

I don't know how I get into these things....

One task I've wanted to do is to compile Honey's history with me as expressed in Message In A Bottle, my archived AOL Journal, and Life Off Hold (here).

Introducing...

Honey, My Little Dumpling

Lately I've been seeing blogs with Category sidebar sections that do this, but I haven't researched how it's done. Instead I set up a new blog (above). The cut and paste task is made worse because I have to reset the font-size-color each time. Also, I have to get all my pics over to Photobucket.com. In some instances I've had to re-size and size-for-web the photos.

Therefore, easy idea, time-consuming execution.

The above is a work in progress until I get up to date.

Friday's Serving of Birthday Meme

Friday Feast Forty-Eight

Happy Bithday to the Friday Feast meme.
Appetizer
Approximately how many hours per day do you spend watching television?
On average two hours per day actually watching shows, but the TV is on in the background most nights as I spend time on the computer or do chores. I watch Reality shows and listen to Fox News, regular news, and Letterman.

Soup
Which colors decorate your kitchen?
Decorate is a very kind word. My apartment kitchen was last 'decorated' circa 1970 with a gold/yellow wallpaper which I hate. I added salmon curtains on the windows, which I like.

Salad
Name 2 brand names you buy on a regular basis, and what do you like about them?
1) Healthy Choice's Flavor Adventures frozen entrees. They are tasty and the portion sizes are enough to keep me from feeling cheated *I'm looking at you, Lean Cuisine*.
2) Crest toothpaste. I love it's taste and feel in my mouth.

Main Course
What is your biggest fear?
Any and all variations on the theme of being financially and physically needy and without help in this world. My second fear is that my cat will suffer under one of these dire scenerios.

Dessert
If you could wake up tomorrow and find yourself in another location, where would you want to be?
Hmmm, sharing a vacation in Spain, Italy or Greece with my two Oregonian friends from college days. I've never been to any of these countries.

Bonus Birthday Question
What's your favorite flavor of birthday cake?
Spice cake with peanut butter frosting. It is the best cake in the world and a family tradition.

Rolling With the Punches

My Tasks Weekend was a success depite the never-ending flu-cold-allergy remnants that continue to do harm to my body. I've been totally fatigued all week so far, but don't want cobwebs to start forming here at Life Off Hold, so here's how it goes:

Worthy Winners - The planets must have aligned right, because this week (and next) will see a harvest of a whole crop of worthy Reality TV winners: Tom on Survivor, Uchenna & Joyce on The Amazing Race, and, (my prediction), Bo Bice on American Idol. The winner of The Apprentice, no matter who it is, will be less than stellar, but still credible. All these good winners probably means that a minion of Satan will probably win this summer's Big Brother.
Dental Deeds - I showed up for my cleaning and insisted on a full set of x-rays to further exclude (or include) a dental influence on the head/eye problems I've been having since September. I did not give him any specific information, but wanted to see if he saw any problems. In viewing the x-rays and then checking my teeth, he told me he did not like my upper left wisdom tooth and would have it pulled if it was him. That was the very spot, and tooth, that I thought was suspect. I'm having it pulled tomorrow (Thursday).
My Castle is Only Rented - My landlord is looking for investors in his business of buying, renovating, and renting apartments. He was showing my building to people recently and I spoke to him about it. He said he needs money and if he doesn't get an investor he'd have to sell one of his buildings. I told him, "Not this one!". He laughed and told me not to worry. Then last night he left a message that Thursday he would be bringing a building inspector through all the apartments. I am worried. He is a very good landlord and my unit is under the market value. A new landlord would probably raise the rent considerably and even a new partner might want more out of my unit. Now I wait for the other shoe to drop...

Well, at least I de-cluttered before the inspection tomorrow. Stay tuned.

To Do, or Not To Do

I'm feeling energy and some health return, and with that, I'm ready tear through a lot of little action items on the perpetual To Do list. A few weekends ago I was inspired by Mike's published To Do list and the way he made completed tasks bold when complete. So, here is my list for this weekend:

Completed tasks will be in bold.

  • Clean & cook broccoli before it goes bad
  • Take boxes to the basement, bring up A/C casing, charcoal, grill internals
  • Install the livingroom A/C and re-shuffle the furnishing to my summertime configuration. (Honey stayed in the bedroom and was ok.)
  • Clean and prep my grill and it's table; set up grill supplies
  • Get rid of the last squirrel food (yes, I feed the evil critters)
  • Do 2 loads of laundry - winter sweaters in prep for storage (more Honey hate-ittude) One load done - Honey was clammy with fear. I won't be doing a 2nd load this weekend because the 1st has to dry in order to free up the sweater rack.
  • Empty binders on my bookshelf of outdated materials and prep for Momento project.
  • Add new files to binders (sorted only)
  • Complete 2004 Financial Reports
  • Cull CDs to sell on Amazon and list them - 28 CDs, books, DVD, videos listed, 7 sold already!
  • Sort scanned photos and postcards into storage boxes
  • Watch backlogged VCR tapes: LOST, Revelations (gave up on this series after a while), other. Cue up tapes for next week.
  • Watch Survivor Finale on Sunday night
  • E-mail my friends Karen & Judy, and my Aunt; write my other Aunt
  • Organize/Prep materials for sewing projects. No, not my quilt.
  • Scan photos (if time permits)
  • Try to get my desktop computer Rhapsody application back to the earlier version (Yay! Actually I think the 'new upgrade' was a phishing attempt that I narrowly avoided.)

So, we will see how this goes. Completed tasks will be in bold.

Have a good weekend, everyone!

I'll Take It!

Courtesey of Blogthings: What Age Do You Act?

You Are 32 Years Old
32
Under 12: You are a kid at heart. You still have an optimistic life view - and you look at the world with awe. 13-19: You are a teenager at heart. You question authority and are still trying to find your place in this world. 20-29: You are a twentysomething at heart. You feel excited about what's to come... love, work, and new experiences. 30-39: You are a thirtysomething at heart. You've had a taste of success and true love, but you want more! 40+: You are a mature adult. You've been through most of the ups and downs of life already. Now you get to sit back and relax.

Being 53 in age but living 32 on the inside is great, but it can be a little isolating. The people I know who are 50+ tend to be settled people with a focus on their grown children, their grandchildren and on other serious adult matters. They are 50-50-somethings.

As a 50-32-something, neither the 50 nor the 32 are entirely satisfied or complete. The body is ready to take it slower, but the mind still wants to go, do, and start new things at a pace that sometimes outright dismays my older self. This gets worse for me socially, not fitting in the way I'd like among either the 50-50s or 30-30s.

I could use some hybrid people....maybe there are other 50-30s wandering around out there looking for their own.
